What’s Osumi?

Osumi is the name of the area on the Osumi peninsula, eastern part of Kagoshima prefecture, Japan.

The area has Kanoya City, Tarumizu City, Shibushi City, Soo City, Kimotsuki Town, Higashikushira Town, Osaki Town, Kinko Town and Minami-ohsumi Town.

The history of Osumi is very old. So many kofun (ancient tombs) created in the 5th century have been discovered in this area.

It is very attractive place for cyclists, because it has mountains, plateaus, rivers, seashores and etc., so cyclists can choose hill climb courses, long straight courses or up and down winding courses along seashores. Anyway, there are various courses there.

And more than anything, the number of motor traffic is dramatically low in comparison to other areas in Japan.

Now shall we go cycling to Osumi and enjoy the rural atmosphere and foods there!!
